Stand-alone elements - Days of the week, months

In order to create a Calendar Component I will recommend to use the stand-alone elements as Days of the Week, Name of the Months, but my question is how to get those CLDR elements using ICU?
Is any plan to make an API available that can get those elements without having to directly extract that date from CLDR?
